Originally a bigger instrument, reduced and deeply modified. The belly is of spruce, of medium-fine grain. The back is two-piece of fine and pronounced curly maple, with clear traces of the royal coat of arms of King Charles IX of France. The gilt lettering "IET" - "TE" - "IVSTIT" - "TAT" - "IV" of the motto PIETATE ET IVSTICIA is visible on the ribs and the K which stands for KAROLUS is on the CC.
