1560/74 - Cello "Carlo IX"

Originally, it was a bigger instrument. The belly is made of several pieces of spruce, with remainings of many interventions and alterations. Near the tips, some gilt fleur-de-lys are visible. The back is four-pieces of curly maple, it shows the painted gilt decoration of the royal coat of arms of King Charles IX of France, where the year “1566” appears. The ribs, made of maple, present few remainings of the gilt lettering PIETATE ET IVSTICIA. The scroll is not original.
