1574 - Small Violin "Tullie"

The belly is of pine, narrow-grained in the center and getting narrower towards the edges. The back is of medium-curly maple, bearing many fragments of the painted royal insignia of Charles IX of France. The ribs are of maple, similar to the back, with some gilt letters of the motto PIETATE ET IUSTITIA and the letter K which stands for KAROLUS in the c-bouts, in a phytomorphe decoration. The peg box is probably of birch. The varnish is orange-brown on a gold base.
