1696 - Viola "Archinto"

Back of one piece of curly maple to medium-narrow horizontal curl. Ribs of wood similar to that of the bottom, possibly reduced in height; the lower one in a single piece. Orange-red varnish on a yellow-gold ground.

  • Dendrochronological analysis of the soundboard performed by John C. Topham, Surrey, 2000, which resulted in the most recent ring dating to 1679. A second analysis performed by Henri Grissino-Mayer, P. Sheppard and M. Cleaveland in 2001, determined the date to 1685.
