1560/77 - Violin "Carlo IX"

The front is two-piece of pine, medium-grained in the center, many parts of the edges and of the purfling are not original, the holes are round and have fine pipes. The back is of maple, curly marked, and descending towards the right. Two position pins are evident. There are fragments of the royal insignia used by Charles IX of France. The ribs of maple, similar to the back, have fragments of the motto PIETATE ET IUSTITIA and some flower decoration in the CC. The scroll is original, of wood similar to the back, with an insert restored in the pegbox, with fragments of the original gilt decoration.The varnish is orange-brown.

  • Proviene dalla collezione di Henry Hottinger dalla quale è passato alla casa Wurlitzer di New York, che l'ha venduto all'Ente Provinciale per il Turismo di Cremona, il quale l'ha donato alla città di Cremona nel 1966.
