di Amati Antonio & Gerolamo I
1611 - Bass-Viola
The front is two-piece of spruce of fine grain. It has beaks at the c-bouts, prominent boards and f-holes. The back is two - piece of curly maple, curved until the bump, which is flat. The nose is carved with a letter "M", which probably refers to the Gand Dukes Medici family.
The ribs are of wood similar to the back.
The pegbox ends with the scroll.
The varnish is golden-brown.
It has six strings and the fitting up is baroque, but probably not original.
