Castelnuovo Fogliani, march 14, 1927 - Parma, october 14, 2019
Born in Castenuovo Fogliani, part of the municipality of Alseno in the province of Piacenza, from a modest family of laborers transferred to Noceto in 1930, he began to work on the construction of self-taught instruments. In 1950 he enrolled at the International School of Violin Making in Cremona. A pupil of Peter Tatar, he graduated in 1954. Back in the family, from 1975 he was called to reopen the school of violin making at the Conservatory "Arrigo Boito" of Parma, which was founded in 1929 and closed in 1938, until 1990, then transferred to the fortress of Noceto. He has trained numerous students from all over the world. Awarded numerous prizes, he has built stringed and plucked instruments and in his home in Ronco Campo Noceto, he set up a small museum of his creations. From 1988 to 2000 he was the conservator of the violin "Il Cannone" by Paganini at the Municipality of Genoa. His activity continued with his daughter Elisa and son-in-law Andrea Zanrè in their Parma laboratory.
